USA should ask its Embassy & Consulates to regularly report communal nuances of Indian politics. By Hemraj Jain

Sub:- (i)- As a leader of free world USA faces greatest challenge in India, the largest secular democracy that too in Asia (ii)- USA should ensure that freedom of expression of Imam (being browbeaten by India), is protected (ii)- Nawaz comes or not Bukhari has every right to invite him and not Modi (iii)- Incompetent & coward Muslim poster boys not understanding subtle Hindu communalism (iv)- BJP’s eulogizing of Patel is indication, of subtle communal politics to come in India (v)- Patel made great contribution in unifying India post independence, but his type of politics was responsible - also for partition of India (vi)- In this age of ISIS phenomenon, USA has to be vigilant about factors which provides fertile ground to it (vii)- USA should understand that last word on India’s partition, yet to be written (vii)- USA should take notice of increasing desire in Pakistan (POK etc) for unified India - Pakistan (ix)- USA should ask its Embassy & Consulates to regularly report communal nuances of Indian politics
It should best be left to history whether US president Obama is right in not putting some American (along-with others) boots on ground for protecting human rights in NAME but Obama will certainly go down in history as the most unsung President of USA (the leader of free world) if he does not do any thing (which does not need any American boots on ground) about preventing fast down-slide (towards communal politics) of India - the largest constitutionally secular democracy of 1.25 Billion people that too in this part of Asia and which is the most important anchor & bulwark for 'secular democratic globalization' of entire Asia. First and foremost Obama will have to understand, as given below, the subtle way in which Hindus practice communal politics and then will have to formulate his foreign policy about SAARC region :-
(1)- It is only the martial element of State which can suppress Communalism. Had the blood of both Hindus and Muslims flown on the soil of India (as in 1857) together for independence, no communal force would have dared to even talk about partition of India. Because India did not raise guns against Britishers for independence, India's martial element was subdued which resulted in growth of communalism in India [and in independence which saw ~ 1 million killed and ~ 10 million displaced in most gory situation,(so much for the non-violent freedom struggle of India)]. Notwithstanding Jinnah being projected as the person mainly responsible for partition of India, the communal forces of both Hindus and Muslims wanted partition so that they could have field-day without interference from other religionists in countries [India and Pakistan, West and East (now Bangladesh)]) partitioned on the basis of religion.
(2)- BJP’s present eulogizing of Patel is indication, of subtle communal politics to come in India. No-doubt Patel made great contribution in unifying India (especially its over 500 princely States) post independence and for his other contribution every Indian respects him. But it should not be forgotten that his type of politics (especially during period when Congress governments were in various provinces before independence and communal riots took place in different parts of India) was also responsible for the partition of India and which has been recorded in any number of books written on the history of Independence struggle of India, where Patel was projected having bias in favor of Hindus. [what an irony that a person like Patel who is quite responsible for partition of India, his birthday is now being celebrated as ‘Unity Day’ in India]
(3)- It is not a coincidence that when BJP came in power (1998 - 2004) people started calling Home Minister Advani as Patel of then India (in contrast to moderate PM Vajpayee as Nehru of then India). It was widely reported in media that when 2002 Gujarat massacre took place (in which thousand of mostly innocent Muslims were killed) Advani (with the backing of RSS and Sangh Parivar) did not allow Vajpayee to remove the then Gujarat Chief Minister Modi (present PM Modi) and PM Vajpayee ended only giving sermons on ‘Raj Dharma’ (State religion) to CM Modi
(4)- BJP had 2 MPs in 1984, then in late eighties it raised Ram Janmbhoomi - Babri Masjid controversy (resulting in demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 and attended riots including 2002 Gujarat massacre) and this has brought BJP on its own majority with 282 MPs in Government of India headed by PM Modi and in power in many States. This has been at the cost of Muslims. Hence no surprise that even now many Muslims believe that BJP / Modi are anti- Muslim. Asaduddin Owaisi the President AIMIM, who is being used by Hindu majority India to counter Imam Bukhari (in this Nawaz v/s Modi invite controversy) also have said in an interview to leading newspaper on Monday that -”[PM Modi talks of Muslim patriotism but his party BJP label Muslims as encouraging terrorism through Islamic schools, spread lies regarding Muslims about ‘Love Jihad’, officers complicit in abetting communal violence against Muslims being re-instated, BJP engineer communal riots before elections as happened recently in Trilok Puri in India’s capital Delhi]”.
(5)- In addition to this many Indian Muslims believe as claimed by Imam Bukhari that the present PM Modi also has bias in favor of Hindus. (this is reminiscent of Hindu bias of independence struggle hero Vallabhbhai Patel) . In a nutshell Indian Muslims have plenty of reasons to be angry and dissatisfied with PM Modi and have every right & freedom to express it in whatever non-violent way they consider effective.
(6)- Whatever deficiency people all over the world may point out in Obama’s foreign policy but he served the interest of humanity and human rights spectacularly well by defending freedom of expression through UN address in 2012. Obama was right in refusing to ban allegedly a blasphemous video (produced in USA) on Prophet Muhammad, which triggered demonstrations by Muslims all over the world in which hundreds of Muslims were killed. Obama then said that - “Americans have fought and died around the globe to protect the right of all people to express their views, even views that we profoundly disagree with. We do not do so because we support hateful speech, but because our founders understood that without such protections, the capacity of each individual to express their own views and practice their own faith may be threatened. We do so because in a diverse society, efforts to restrict speech can quickly become a tool to silence critics and oppress minorities.”
(7)- Expression of sentiments, views, emotions, ideas, thoughts etc can be in many ways. Imam Bukhari exercised constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression by inviting Nawaz but not Modi. This is a very simple but most powerful & effective way of expressing the displeasure and grievance of Imam (in his personal capacity and on behalf of whatever number of Muslims have faith / confidence in him) against PM Modi.
(8)- No-doubt most of the problems faced by Indian Muslims can be solved by filing such and other writ petitions by Muslims in Supreme Court of India (SCI) for (i)- Restoring the status-quo-ante of Babri Masjid (ii)- Getting justice to victims of Gujarat 2002 massacre through writ related to Section 130 & 131 CrPc (iii)- Getting reservation laws (which are discriminatory against Muslims) repealed under Article 13 & 14 of Constitution. -
(9)- But Muslims are not moving SCI because they do not want to solve their problems for the reasons best known to them only (may be due to some hidden agenda of Islam which want to destroy democracy & secularism in India or even Indian State). But what is important is the popular perception which this 'Imam's invite to Nawaz and not to Modi controversy' will create all over the world where Indian Muslims will be seen as victimized people (and in politics what mostly matters is perception and not so much the facts).
(10)- USA should also keep in mind that for Pakistan - [which is already trying very hard to internationalize Kashmir issue, especially after India cancelled August, 25 Indo - Pak Foreign Secretaries talks on ludicrous pretext that Pak High Commissioner, despite India’s objections, met Kashmiri separatists before these talks] - this controversy created by Imam, is a windfall because PM Nawaz can further internationalize Kashmir issue by visiting India on Imam’s invitation and by meeting Kashmiri separatists at Delhi. In this age of ISIS phenomenon, USA has to be vigilant about factors which provides fertile ground to it (which Indian Muslims seen as victimized people and unresolved Muslim majority Kashmir gory-dispute have every potential to provide)
(11)- Especially when Hindu majority India - its political parties, political commentators, its media, even some Muslim poster boys etc - are trying to browbeat Imam and asking him to withdraw his invitation to Nawaz, - USA should also keep in mind that last word on India’s partition is yet to be written. USA should also take notice of increasing desire in Pakistan (POK etc) for unified India - Pakistan. A prominent newspaper from POK is presently saying that - “[There is no destiny in SAARC. The destiny of India and Pakistan is to unite in a country called ‘Dinia’]”. It does not require a genius of political science to understand that this 'Dinia' is possible only when India abjures communal politics (including subtle communal politics) and start practicing secular politics in true sense of the word.
Therefore in view of very high stakes involved in present political scenario in India and Pakistan, as mentioned above, and its eventual fall-out for entire Asia and for global political order, USA should ask its Embassy & Consulates to regularly report communal nuances of Indian politics (and also till November 2014 end, about day-to-day development regarding ‘Imam Bukhari invite to Nawaz and not to Modi controversy’).
