This refers to article ‘Kashmir and US amnesia’ in prominent Pakistani newspaper Dawn by Yasin Malik Chairman, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), based in Srinagar, J&K, India. In this article Yasin has criticized USA that - [it has given-up the idea and concept of self-determination, freedom and liberty and instead now it is about power and interest hence USA washed its hands of the Kashmir dispute by saying that it is up to India and Pakistan to resolve the dispute.]
Yasin has written this article because he rightly believes that USA still believes in what Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers of the great country said, “the last hope of human liberty in this world rests on us”. But merely the criticism of and appeal to long cherished values of USA wouldn't do rather Yasin should know how to use USA and for this he should do the following:-
(1)- JKLF should understand that USA (or any country) will come come forward to help JKLF in its objectives only when it enhances the interests of USA too in a concrete term and not merely in ideological terms because the parties involved are not ordinary countries but India and Pakistan (both nuclear countries with ~ 1.45 Billion people. With considerable economic & strategic clout). The biggest problem why Yasin could not move USA to solve Kashmir problem is that JKLF does not know what it is trying to achieve and how will it benefit USA too.
(2)- Another major problem with JKLF is that it does not understand that after 9/11 USA has succeeded in engineering general apprehension all over the world against Muslims and about bringing another independent country (like Kashmir etc) of Muslim majority into existence. This global fear got exacerbated due to ISIS which has made Islam practically another name for religion of atrocities and terrorism (because its clergy in ISIS territories did not stop ISIS from such cruelties).
(3)- Till date JKLF has not made publicly known that what will be the final place of Kashmir or PoK or entire J&K in the political arrangement (yet to be announced) which they are trying to achieve. If JKLF is simply banking on 1948 UN resolution for plebiscite in J&K then nothing more can be said about naivety of JKLF and it is better JKLF wind-up its office and spare Kashmiris the trouble and hardship of following such simpleton leaders of JKLF.
(4)- This does not mean that JKLF should give-up its fight for justice to Kashmiris. On the contrary presently Kashmiris are in the unique position (which they never had earlier) to use USA for the solution of their problem if they take the latest global political developments into reckoning and draw a modified plan of action to achieve their stated objectives.
Therefore Yasin Malik / JKLF should carry out discussion in a closed group so that the present golden opportunity provided by global developments (which any perspicacious politician can see) are best utilized for the solution of the gory & chronic Kashmir problem in the interest of securing human rights of the people of J&K.
