Islamabad: September 12, 2015. (PCP) The Senate Standing Committee, through a resolution, condemned Indian aggression and ceasefire violations across the line of control urging the international community to take immediate notice of the violations and appreciated Pakistan’s stance by not responding to the Indian provocations in kind. The high level meeting was presided over by its Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed. A resolution unanimously adopted by the Senate Defence Committee in its meeting today strongly condemned India’s aggressive stance and military violations across the LOC and working boundary with Pakistan. The Defence Committee observed that ever since Mr. Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister, Indian Defence statements and actions had become aggressive, jingoistic and war-like, even boasting about Indian role in the dismemberment of Pakistan in 1971, openly admitting covert operation against Pakistan using terrorists as instrument of policy and going to the extent of threatening ‘limited war’ against Pakistan. The committee through this resolution urged the international community, especially the United Nations, European Union and organization of Islamic countries to take immediate note of this premeditated and systematic campaign on the part of the Indian government and its military, which is aimed at destabilizing Pakistan and diverting attention away from the successful and unwavering ‘Operation Zarb Azb’ launched by the Pakistan Armed Forces against the scourge of terrorism and extremism. It further observed that aggressive and unwarranted stance comes at a time when the entire Pakistani nation, soldiers and civilians alike, is united in combating terrorism and extremism. Since 9/11, Pakistan is the biggest victim of terrorism having lost over 50 thousand precious lives in the struggle to combat, contain and crush terrorism, the resolution says. The Committee appreciated the policy of the government of Pakistan not to respond to the Indian provocation in kind and continue to offer unconditional talks and dialogue on the basis of equality and reciprocity, despite Indian attitude to the contrary, since this is the only civilized norm to conduct bilateral relations in today’s troubled world. The Defence Committee strongly felt that enduring peace, security and stability in South Asia can only be attained when India abides by its commitment to the United Nations resolutions regarding the right of self- determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier the Committee was informed that 221 cross border violations have been committed by the Indian forces in which 26 civilians have embraced martyrdom and 78 injured recently. It was informed that the Pakistan formation commanders sent 39 hotline messages at the brigade level to their counterparts in Indian Military but to no avail. Pakistan’s response to the violations has been selective and effective, aiming to target military installations and abide by the Geneva Convention. Secretary Ministry of Defence Lt. Gen (r ) Alam Khattak in his statement before the committee observed that our policy is that of restraint. “Pakistan is a mature state, only a fool would want a war in these circumstances”. Our policy is very much clear, General Alam said. The Committee was also apprised about the compensation package for the APS Shuhada to the tune of Rs.183 million for 22 affectees. This includes cash compensation of Rs.3 million per affectee, education of children of the affected families and a housing package of 5-million for each of the affected family. Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed termed the last year’s attack on APS as a crime against humanity and said that whole nation supports the families of the APS Shuhada. The meeting was attended amongst others by Senators Hidayat Ullah, Atta ur Rehman, Lt. Gen (r ) Salahuddin Tirmizi, Lt. Gen ( r) Abdul Qayyum, Muhammad Javed Abbasi, Farhatullah Babar, Mrs. Sehar Kamran and Brig. ( R) John Kenneth Williams.
