Islamabad: September 13, 2017. (PCP) A photo exhibition showing the link between the UK and Pakistan over the last 70 years has been launched at the Library of Birmingham by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Anne Underwood, on behalf of the British High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan. The British High Commission exhibition – entitled “Shared history; shared future” – is a collection of photographs taken in Pakistan that showcase the close links between the UK and Pakistan. The exhibition will run until 31 December. The Lord Mayor of Birmingham Cllr Anne Underwood said: “It gives me great pleasure to open ‘Shared history; shared future’ at the Library of Birmingham. This exhibition celebrates the relationship between Pakistan and the UK over the last seventy years. Evidence of Birmingham’s relationship with Pakistan can be seen wherever you look in the city – cuisine, fashion, academia, sport and of course local government. I hope both local people and visitors to the city will very much enjoy the exhibition." William Middleton, Political Counsellor at the British High Commission in Islamabad, said: “We are delighted that our photo exhibition is being featured in the biggest library in Europe. This exhibition shows the real depth of the UK-Pakistan relationship over the last 70 years, as well as showcasing the vibrant culture, beautiful scenery and amazing people of Pakistan. We thank Birmingham City Council and the Library of Birmingham for hosting us. “This exhibition celebrates 70 years of cooperation, coordination and friendship between the UK and Pakistan – and looks forward to a strong relationship in the future. While there are many links between the two countries, it is the people to people links that that make the UK and Pakistan so close. And the city of Birmingham – which has the highest number of people of Pakistan origin in the UK – that is very centre of those links. It has added to Birmingham’s vibrant culture, and particularly its food. With 1.5 million people in the UK with family links to Pakistan and 10,000s of British people in Pakistan, the links between the UK and Pakistan continue to grow stronger The exhibition has also been exhibited in the House of Commons in London, as well as major cities across Pakistan. While in Birmingham, representatives of the British High Commission in Islamabad are also meeting representatives of the local council and the Pakistani Consulate in Birmingham, and are visiting the Muslim Women's Network, Islamic Help and the Amirah Foundation.
