Big Achievement for SPARC in 2nd Pact Olympic Yard Games

HYDERABAD: February 1, 2018. (By Abbas Kassar) The SPARC (society for protection of rights of child) Sindh region got big achievement as its street children bagged 8 gold and 13 silver medals at 2nd Pact Olympic yard games played at a public-school Hyderabad. Around 1300 students of 42 schools and colleges of Hyderabad region took part in games. The games like cricket, karate, long jump, short jump, boxing, athletes, rally race and tug of war were played. Sparc street children got gold and silver medals in tug of war, cricket and athletes. The sports gala was attended among others by vice chancellor of Sindh university professor Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat, Dr. Fakhar Sohail, executive director of Sparc, sports director Hyderabad Makhdoom Irshad, Sindh minister Fayyaz Butto, Spark manager Zahid Thebo, Hassan Kiryo of Sparc schools, social activist Mryam Kiryo and others. Guests gave away medals to successful children. Addressing the gala professor Fateh Muhammad Burfat said it was surprising that street children of Sparc not only took part in event but also got a lot of gold and silver medals. He lauded efforts of Sparc which he said has provided such a healthy and positive atmosphere to street children with reference to rights of children and implementation of legislation which will help elimination of violence, abuse, sexual molestation and other acts of violence. He asked government to support Sparc to provide street children with recreational and educational facilities to take them out of thinking of mental and physical backwardness. Sparc street children center manager Zahid Thebo said Sparc has set up street children centers across Pakistan. He said Sparc has not only raised voice for rights of children and their protection and for implementation of legislation for children at every forum. He said Sparc has brought forward the mental and physical abilities of street children by taking part in such kind of games. He said Pac Olympic yard has given representation to children of Sindh by providing them opportunity to play in their games. He asked government and social welfare organizations to hold such programs so to get children out of physical and mental trauma so to stop violence, abuse and other incidents.
